So I bought a Sony Digital Reader a couple months ago, and I love it. I only have one issue, and that's not really with it, its partially an issue with Project Gutenberg. The issue is navigating through the books, which exists whether or not you have an e-book reader or not. While it works fine if you just want to go from cover to cover, if you want to go to a specific section or chapter it can be a pain, particularly if you don't have a search feature.
However, I found something that will make my life easier (and hopefully other peoples E-Book reader owners lives as well). Its an open source e-book manager called Calibre. On top of being able to sync various readers and being able to convert formats, it also can do those conversions intelligently.
What I mean by this is you can set Chapter/Section delimiters. Then if the target format supports a table of contents like feature, like the major format for the Sony reader, lrf, it creates it.
Now while I'm fine with just converting my own files, I would rather not have everyone have to convert everything over and over when only one person has to convert. So this is also a call for anyone who might get this message to upload your Gutenberg conversions either back to Gutenberg or send them to me, as I'm willing to host them to this point.
As soon as I actually get around to converting mine, I will do this.
Happy reading.
